I would like to comment on the lead story "Why not try it this way," April 30 about the Civic Trust's proposals.
At last an organisation with what looks like common sense. A gateway on to Newport Street with Welcome to Bolton.
Newport Street is wide enough to have canopies, perhaps back to back along the centre. Leave the town hall as is, put the cafes where they should be, on the sunny side of the square. Create green areas in the square leading to Cheadle Square and further to Queens Park.
As already suggested, put the student accommodation on the old bus station.
What worries me is Mr Morris's comment at the end: " The plan will be put out for competition to different architects." This suggests to me the plans are in place and no other plans will be considered.
