IN Dale Haslam's article in Monday's Bolton News about the closure of the Deane branch of the RBS, it says a spokesman said: "We are committed to following the UK government protocol on branch closures .... "

I would be interested to know what is the government protocol, because I thought these closures were basically to enable the excessively greedy 'Big Cats' executors at the top, to take even more vast amounts for themselves, which are truly undeserved.

The days when customer service was of prime importance have sadly gone, and customers have been advised that facilities have been arranged with the Post Office, so that cheques can be paid in there, etc., but in view of all the Post Office closures, how long will it be before the Deane branch Post Office is closed?

It's not everyone who either wants, or is able to trail into town to do their banking. Would a petition make any difference? As an 80-year-old Deane resident

I feel the normal life of human beings is being eroded and completely taken over by IT and automation. Inevitably progress has to be made, but this is not just a financial cost.

Morrisons have recently realised that many people prefer, and NEED to have personal contact when paying for and packing their shopping, rather than using the self service tills, and are reverting back. At least they have taken the warning and used common sense. Some major stores wonder why their sales are down. From personal experience I often have difficulty in finding an assistant to help me and now make use of buying from catalogues.
