I WRITE to publicise the continuing dumping of putrid human food for the birds at Doffcocker Lodge by an ill advised person (or persons).

Food has recently included a whole load of mouldy white sliced bread, remnants of take-aways and, at the weekend, over a pound of cubed raw pork.

Sadly my dog ate two or three pieces before I was able to bag and bin the remainder and has been severely ill.

How does anyone believe that this can do nothing but harm to the birds, wildlife and domestic animals which use the lodge?

It is only 18 months since the Doffcocker bird population was decimated by avian botulism and it has been heart warming to see the number of birds increase one more, we do not ant another tragedy.

Please can Bolton council be persuaded to put up a large, strongly worded sign warning of the dangers to the conservation area if this persists — the small notice in the display case is no deterrent.

And please can those of us who love the areas be vigilant in keeping an eye open for dumping and report it.
