I WAS very interesting to read about the future of our NHS North West ambulance service.

Readers will have been shocked to learn that Arriva Transport Solutions Limited who currently provide transport across Greater Manchester have admitted major failures. The company failings include overstating it's performance to such an extent that it has been forced to pay back over £1.5 million to the NHS.

The company recently announced that it will not reapply for the contract when it is up for retendering next year. NHS Trade Unions have already confirmed that they have been working to ensure an in-house bid is "on the table", I hope it is successful.

Local MPs David Crausby and Andy Burnham along with other health campaigners have argued all along that ambulance services should never have been privatised. I agree that we need our Ambulance and other NHS services to be run as public services for the benefit of patients and not for private profit. When will the government and the powers that be in the NHS ever learn?
