RE your recent article about the introduction of a 20mph speed limit on residential estates.
I live on Ladybridge and we have a 20mph limit which I understand cost £20,000 for the signs etc.
I have seen two accidents where one of the vehicles ended up on it’s roof. I have been overtaken many times on Armadale Road by motorist doing 60mph and the 715 bus does not adhere to the speed limit.
There are several schools on the estate and there should be 20mph zones with flashing lights near the schools in the morning and afternoons at opening and home times. The rest of the time the speed limit should be 30mph. However if the council does not enforce these speed limits there will be more accidents. We need speed cameras or other methods of slowing the traffic down especially on Ladybridge with its five schools as it is also used as a rat run from Deane Road to Beaumont Road.
Without policing the 20mph speed restriction 80 per cent of motorist will continue to ignore it.
