I READ with surprise that we were to get more weekend train disruptions due to electrification.
One wonders what network rail are up to, why did they not carry out the next phase of the work at the same time as the Farnworth tunnel resulting in only one set of disruptions, and one might ask when are the overhead gantries being erected and is this being done in conjunction with the latest interruptions or are we going to get more when this is done.
With a proper co-ordinated programme the whole project could already have been completed though how many electric trains will run through Bolton one could count on one hand as neither the Wigan/Southport line, nor the Blackburn line are being electrified and it will be some time before the Preston/Blackpool or the East/West lines become electrified. All a total waist of money. The investment should have been put into brand new diesel units.
