IN response to the front page headline "Could Bolton look like this?” May 17, I can only reply “I sincerely hope not”.
The buildings look like a container warehouse, and the grassed area is divided into plots, apparently with no paving to separate these areas. The layout of the buildings will surely lend itself to wind tunnels.
Under the heading “Sustainability” are buzz words such as ‘green’ buildings and low carbon sustainability (unexplained), and out of “Respect for Civic Buildings” there will be a limited “palette” of quality buildings – unspecified. In my dictionary a “palette” is concerned with colours, not materials. Our Civic Crescent, a feature in its own right, seemed to have disappeared until I located it on page four, where it had lost all its splendour, swallowed up by the mess of featureless buildings behind it.
Please, Civic Trust, think again. The Town Hall and the Crescent around it should be the Town’s pride and joy, not form the basis for architectural vandalism.
