IN response to a recent story about home carers. My late wife Joan was physically disabled and found everyday life difficult.
Myself and other family members cared for her needs but as time went on and I got older and her needs became more, we had to seek help.
My wife became bed ridden and we needed help. We were given carers who came in twos, four times a day. I have nothing but praise and respect for our carers. From the start, they showed my wife and myself nothing but respect and compassion even when my wife was shouting and screaming and not making sense.
Sadly my wife passed away last October and some of the carers even came to pay their respect at her funeral.
I really could not have coped without them and I find their title 'carers' very befitting as this is exactly what they were.
