PARENTS, children and trade union members will stand shoulder to shoulder in Bolton tomorrow this week in support of a campaign to save local children's centres.

Several of the town's children's centres are under threat of closure and a campaign has been launched to keep them open.

Bright Meadows Children's Centre, Breightmet, Bolton, will be the focus of a protest tomorrow from 11am with parents meeting from around 10:45am onwards.

Suzi Boardman of Bolton Unison says: "These centres do a fantastic job. They provide support, services as well as acting as a focal point for local families many of whom are really struggling, particularly in the current climate of austerity. Bright Meadows distributes hundreds of meals for youngsters from some of the poorest families in our town over the summer. Many of the centres provide access to health visitors and other services. I would hate to see all the good work that is done from the centres be lost. If anything the centres should be expanded not cut. This campaign will hopefully urge Bolton Council to think again".

The Save Bolton Children's Centres campaign is now on Facebook and has its own hashtag #SaveBoltonChildrenCentres
