I READ with interest the article regarding Westhoughton Labour councillors' concerns about the prospective housing developments on green belt land in and around the Westhoughton area, Bolton News Tuesday, November 8.

They comment on how power has been "snatched from local people" and "our precious green fields". I agree with the story and the general principles but what a very short memory the councillors have.

It was only a couple of years ago that every single Labour councillor voted to build on three times as much green belt land not a couple of miles away at Cutacre. I wonder and would love to hear why they have now got consciences.

It's a pity that a couple of years ago they didn't listen to the local people or appreciate the "precious green fields" that would have helped save thousands of acres of land around the Bolton area.
