I FIND the current attacks on the Labour Group and the personal invective against the Leader Councillor Cliff Morris little more than disingenuous coming from senior members of the opposition parties who have previously given support to Bolton's Economic Strategy and the provision of £3/4m in the current budget for supporting Bolton businesses and jobs.

In the past, The Bolton News, Russell&Russell Solicitors, The Light Cinema, Beales Store and currently the Retail Shop Frontage improvements on Newport Street have all benefitted from the Bolton Council's policy of supporting local enterprise to maintain jobs in the town.

There has been no objection to these policy measures before, so why now?

In the case of the Conservatives and Liberals, I conclude political expediency over the welfare of the Bolton Family and in the case of UKIP it is once again playing to sentiments that have no place in our family of cultures and values.

I assume by the recent comments on the Letters page from the "legal and media" that they were not aware of the above and I look forward to the Business and Trade Union members of the Bolton Family demonstrating their support for the council's efforts to support the local economy.

Hon. Alderman Frank White
