ASONS bringing race into this debate is a weak attempt to deflect criticism from the furore (and it won’t work).

It’s odd that Asons assert that politics should play no part in business yet they don’t consider Bolton Council as part of the political establishment — perhaps they believe our council is a bank?

Both Asons and Bolton Council are throwing out chaff in this debate in an attempt to divide and deflect the counter-argument. Blaming local solicitors is a case in point. Most people concerned about the manner of this award are not solicitors or even business people so Asons should stop trying to inject an ulterior motive into the criticism.

Bolton Council is also manipulating events by calling on an independent audit of the grant award knowing already that they would have awarded the grant only after the Council's solicitor had advised accordingly. People don't care if it is legally correct. They are incensed that it was done secretly and without any transparency and that the Council seemingly has money to spare when it is telling us all the time how much money they have lost through cuts imposed by the Tory government.

Answer our questions. We also want full disclosure surrounding the deal for the failed development at Clarence Street which also involved Asons.
