IT was brilliant to see so many people out campaigning for our National Health Service in Bolton on Saturday.

Labour party activists, trade unionists and members of Bolton and District Pensioners all received a fantastic response from the public to calls for more NHS funding and an end to privatisation of health care.

With so much bad news on TV about Donald Trump and differences of opinion about Britain's political future post Brexit, it was great to see people coming together to support the campaign for our NHS.

It was fascinating to read recently about American coal miners who voted for Donald Trump out of frustration with the economy and other issues but now worry about the future of their health care now that Trump plans to scrap Obama Care or the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in the US. Many of these miners have "black lung" which will probably not be covered once the ACA has been scrapped. It is estimated that around 20 million people in the US have directly benefited from President Obama's health care system.

Well done and thanks to everyone taking part. We need more events like this to campaign for health care that we all rely on. We should not take our NHS for granted.
