EVERY new dawn brings another Labour promise, the latest is Diane Abbot’s commitment to fund 10,000 police officers.
This according to our wanna be Home Secretary will cost anywhere between £300,000 and £80,000,000. When you’re making it up as you go along what do a few zeros matter?
All this extra spending is going to be financed mainly by £500bn of extra borrowing taking government spending from £800bn to £1.3trillion. All this is predicated on making society fairer. In practise the money will be lent from wealthy institutions and be paid back by ordinary working families. This will lead to a significant transfer of wealth from some of the poorest to some of the wealthiest people on the planet. The biggest losers will be young people, saddled with a £2 trillion bill.
Setting competitive tax rates, funding public services and reducing the debt burden young people will inherit requires competent government.
A majority of Labour MPs have no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn, why should the public?
