I WOULD like to congratulate Tina Taylor for organising an excellent meeting to discuss the future of Wilfred Geere and Laburnum Lodge care homes, which look after the most vulnerable elderly people in our town.
More than 50 people attended the meeting at the Friends Meeting House. It is clear there is a great deal of concern about the future of all care homes, both council run and privately run, such as those operated by Southern Cross.
It was excellent to hear from the panel of local councillors and MPs that almost everyone of them agrees in the need to maintain our public care homes.
This is clearly the overwhelming view of the people of Bolton, 8,000 of whom have signed the petition to save Wilfred Geere and Laburnum Lodge. I look forward to the council’s debate on this important issue.
