TODAY'S Looking Back photograph taken from our archives shows a Bolton town centre scene back in January 1974 but where is it?

Well, this is the former Great Moor Street railway station which was torn down to make way for a car park.

Here we can see the bulldozer obliterating the last traces of what was, until 1966, Bolton's second train station. It was demolished in that year.

The site was, in 1974, being cleared as part of an improvement scheme to the car park, involving levelling of the railway embankment and nearby property.

Work on the scheme — part of advance work being carried out for the southern limb of the Bolton inner relief road system — began in November of 1973 and was expected to be finished by February of 1974.

Do you remember when Great Moor Street railway station was a buzzing hive of activity?
