FLOODING and the heartache it causes is not a modern phenomenon.
Although we seem to have been hearing more and more about floods and the damage they cause in the last few years back in 1975 it was also a problem.
This time it was Farnworth Veterans’ Social and Recreation Club, Ellesmere Park, suffering from flood water.
Every time it rained — and presumably that was often — the Mossfield Road club was filled with water as it poured through a leaking roof.
Members said it was time Bolton Council repaired the club which was a council-owned building and open to anyone.
Instead of repairing the leaky roof when the trouble started apparently the council re-decorated the hut and installed a new light which was later ruined by the rain water pouring in.
Pensioners were constantly mopping up the mess.
Here we see club member Harry Eglon with a mop and bucket at the club clearing up after the latest rain fall back in August of 1975.
Harry was secretary of the club.
