WE know that many of our readers are fascinated by the history of Bolton and part of that history is looking at how people celebrated events in the past.
For the older generation it can be nice to remember your youth, and for the younger generation it can be interesting to see what was different in previous years.
So, how did the children of members of Astley Bridge Conservative Club celebrate during their Christmas party in 1971?
The picture certainly seems to show the youngsters, many of whom would now be in their 50s, enjoying themselves while watching a magician, who is not in shot, at the club in Moss Bank Way.
We love the mini bowler hats on display here, a more formal alternative to the contemporary Christmas paper bonnets we all wear after pulling crackers.
The faces of the children at the front indicate it was a good show, with one boy so excited the string of his hat has ended up in his mouth, wide-open in astonishment.
The club is still open and still hosting regular events.
