ABOUT 30 years ago this group of ladies were marking a special anniversary.
They were committee members of the Bolton branch of the National Association of Widows.
And they were celebrating 10 years since the branch had been set up to help women across the town who had lost their husbands.
It was January 21, 1987, and the branch had organised an anniversary cake, complete with sugar roses, and the tipple of the day would be six bottles of Lambrusco!
Pictured above, from left, are chairman Edna Phillips, secretary Hilda Leatham, membership secretary Evelyn Haworth and treasurer, Beatrice Barlow.
The National Association of Widows is a national charity which offers support and friendship to widows, and provides opportunities for women to develop a new sense of purpose as they face life on their own.
Married women and other single women who support the aims of the organisation are also welcomed with an associate membership.
