THESE two photographs show a scene that will be familiar to many of our readers.
We feel pretty sure that many of you were employed in these mills when they were Eagley Mills where cotton was worked.
Today they are apartments.
Eagley Mills were a landmark for folk in the area and provided income for, often, every member of the family.
Many friendships were forged among the looms and it was a sad day when they were closed.
It is good to see that the mills have retained much of their splendour and not lost their character when developed into homes.
It is a part of the history of Bolton that should not be forgotten.
The clock tower still remains today as a permanent reminder of a time when cotton was king in Bolton.
Textile mills had existed on the site since the late 18th century, taking advantage of the Eagley Brook which flows through the site to power the machinery.
