MANY of our readers will be familiar with these particular shots of a street in Bolton town centre.
Although the area has changed considerably since both pictures were taken it is easily recognisable as Bridge Street with one shot being taken at the town end of the street and the other further up near the old Palais.
There have been many notable changes in the area not least the building of the Market Place alongside the old Market Hall which is on the right hand side of the lower image.
What strikes us is the number of individual shops in the shot taken near to the Palais.
This picture was taken in 1950.
The other image was captured in 1959 and shows a very busy Bridge Street as it was in those days.
It is also filled with traffic which would not be the case today as this street is restricted to buses.
This was a very different Bolton Town Centre.
