Todd’s first full album of studio material for 4 years finds him in top form with some honest-to-goodness rock.
He himself admits that the album “is a definite return to riff-orientated guitar rock” and he intended it to be. Rundgren’s unique style of songwriting is apparent as the thirteen tracks take us to that special place where rock is king.
‘Mad’, ‘Strike’ and ‘Mountaintop’ are pure stadium rock and the melodic ‘Mercenary’ is a rock anthem classic of the future with Rush-like overtones.
And there’s not just arena rock here. We have some retro sixties guitar AND blues in ‘Gun’; pop genius with a sublime keyboard intro on ‘Today’, and with ‘Weakness’ the human experience is dissected in one of the best ballads of his career.
Those who thought that Todd Rundgren ran out of ideas years ago are in for a shock. He was just biding his time before unleashing this monster.
Release date: September 29th 2008.
