The Addams Family
BCMCS Youth Theatre, Parish Hall Theatre, Egerton
THE Addams Family musical features an original story and here it focuses on daughter Wednesday’s romance with a young man from a ‘respectable’ family and what happens when he and his family come round to dinner.
This Broadway musical is based on the creations of Charles Addams from the original television show is full of wit and catchy lyrics which get stuck in your head pretty quickly and the cast conveys with tons of energy.
As the heads of the family, James Barrow and Annie Jackson as Gomez and Morticia Addams gave strong confident performances.
Charlotte Powell as Wednesday was excellent and got the moody character off to a tee.
Elliott Longworth as Pudsey was brilliant as the mischievous brother.
Stealing many of the laughs was Lucy Beveridge as Grandma, a performance which was beyond her years.
James Casterton as Lurch was very menacing.
Sam Hill played Uncle Fester and was a joy to watch, a perfect performance on all levels — someone to watch for the future.
The “respectable” family included Sean Ainsworth as Dad, Alice Bartholomew as Mom and Michael Davies as Lucas their son.
Great support was given from the “ancestral” chorus to make this a good ensemble piece.
The Addams Family is an amusing and engaging musical, and here it is delivered by performers starting out in their careers with confidence and some considerable vocal talent.
Director Peter Smith and assistant director Gary Harvey have produced a polished and entertaining production.
