WHEN Jack and his mum are sacked from their jobs at a television studio, all kinds of comedy and calamity unfolds.

Jack and the Beanstalk is being staged by St Simon & St Jude ADS from Wednesday, February 18, to Saturday, February 21 at 7.15pm.

Director Stella Crank said: "It's got a bit of a modern twist, that's kind of the reason we have chosen it.

"It starts off modern but it does go back to include the traditional story."

The family pantomime, written by Kei Bailey from Comedy Plays UK, tells the story of Jack and his mum — weather girl Dame Trott, who work at Sunshine TV Studios.

When a morning forecast gets out of hand, they are sacked and soon find themselves unable to pay the local giant’s protection tax.

Faced with the prospect of appearing on the giant’s next dinner menu, they have no choice other than to sell their beloved pet cow Daisy.

Jack definitely has his head in the clouds but when he trades the family cow for magic beans, his mother is not amused.

Join the award-winning theatre group to see if Jack can save the village from the larger than life giant and rescue the old cow — Daisy that is.

It features a cast of 16, including Kate Nixon as Jack, Beth Allcock as Jill, and Daisy the Cow will be played by Olivia Saint and Rebecca Hayes.

Jack and the Beanstalk will be performed at SS Simon & Jude CE Primary School, Newport Road, Great Lever, from Wednesday, February 18, to Saturday, February 21 at 7.15pm with matinees at 2.30pm on Wednesday and Saturday.

Bookings are now being taken and tickets are £6 for adults and concessions £4.

They are available from 01204 520232 or 01204 385687 and discounts are available for group bookings.
