A RESIDENT put out a car fire by throwing a bucket of water over the blazing vehicle.
Fire crews were called to Granville Street, Walkden, at 8.45pm on Monday after receiving reports that an Audi had been set alight.
Crew commander Alex Sugden said: "While we don't encourage people to tackle fires, this blaze was in its early stages.
"A person living locally threw a bucket of water over it and extinguished the fire - stopping the blaze from escalating and meaning the vehicle was not a write-off."
The fire broke out in the driver's seat and is believed to have been started deliberately. Crews were on the scene for 20 minutes.
