BOYBAND The Wanted lost out to rivals One Direction at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The lads, including former Bolton School pupil Max George and Tonge Moor ’s Tom Parker, were hoping to scoop the title of best new artist. But the gong went to the other British boyband of the day, One Direction, who found fame on The X Factor.
One Direction also scooped best pop video and most share-worthy video, for What Makes You Beautiful, at the event in Los Angeles.
One Direction’s Niall Horan said: “We’ve grown up watching this show and to even be here is an honour.”
