BOLTON South East MP Yasmin Qureshi has received an award for the support she has given to the Clean British Energy campaign.

Bolton Friends of the Earth is calling for MPs to oppose “dash-for-gas” changes which the group claims would cause people to use “costly and dirty imported gas”.

The group presented Ms Qureshi with the award for her continued backing of the campaign.

Elizabeth Shepherd, Bolton Friends of the Earth volunteer, said: “Clean British energy is the best way to keep our energy bills — and our climate — under control.

“The majority of the public want their homes to be powered by clean British energy from our sun, wind and sea.

“Many more jobs and business opportunities could be created here in Greater Manchester if ministers give the green light to renewable energy.”

The bill is being debated in Parliament and will determine how the UK is powered for the next 20 years.

Friends of the Earth is calling on the government to include a target to green UK electricity by 2030.
