What would have been "the cost" if it had been a real bomb?

I am glad they were on the ball with this one - do not want to see another explosion in Manchester (or anywhere else)

A little training exercise to relieve their boredom, though if they start to blow up every bag people leave around they will be busy.

maybe if they had used foresight they could have saved on expenditure therefore still ensuring the public's safety

Maybe if the idiot who owned the laptop hadn't left it unattended in a public place, the police wouldn't have had to call out the bomb disposal squad. Better to err on the side of caution than to have dozens of dead bodies in the city centre.

The coffee shops and cafes around the area were reporting that business was, well, booming.

Please explain the specifics of this foresight and how it would have been applied in this instance.

I have counted 5 instances were I could have made reports to the police whilst I was walking home this evening, all of them suspicious packages, using foresight I ascertained that I had no need to call the police thus saving any more need for further expenditure. I would like to add having foresight has nothing to do with being clairvoyant.

There are lies, damned lies and then there's the lies people like you post online.
Why let the truth get in the way of a good story, eh?

Exactly

People who say it was a waste of money should volunteer to go and deal with suspicious packages themselves rather than 'waste' money.

Sorry lads (and lasses) form an orderly queue there :)
