TWO men killed in a horrific crash are yet to be formally identified.

An Audi S4 Quattro was stolen from Boscombe Gardens, in Farnworth, and minutes later crashed in Leigh Road, in Boothstown, on Thursday night. It hit parked cars and burst into flames.

Police were unable to identify the men because they suffered such severe injuries.

Two men were reported missing on Friday after a media appeal and now relatives are having to wait to findn out if they are their relatives. It is understood police are waiting for the results of DNA tests to identify the men. The crash happened at 8.35pm on Thursday and a number of parked cars were also destroyed in the blaze.

Minutes before two men got out of a Vauxhall Vectra in Boscombe Gardens and smashed a window of a house and stole keys to the vehicle.

They threatened to shoot a neighbour, who was putting a bin out. The Audi and the Vauxhall Vectra were then driven off at speed.

A police spokesman said: “We are working with the coroner to identify the people who died following a collision in Boothstown on February 7. Formal identification has not yet been carried out so we are not in a position to confirm the identities of the two people.”
