A PASSENGER is fighting for his life after a car crash in the early hours of this morning.

The smash happened at about 2.25am, when a silver Vauxhall Astra was travelling along Coal Pit Road.

Police said the driver lost control and hit a wall. The car then rebounded, continued along the road and finally came to a stop in Smithills Dean Road.

One of the passengers, a 25-year-old, was left with a serious head injury.

He was taken to the Salford Royal Hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

The driver of the Astra and two other passengers were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Sgt Mark Thomas, from the police's serious collision investigation unit, said: “We are investigating this incident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, to establish the exact circumstances leading up to this collision, in which a young man has been seriously injured.

“I want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or saw a silver Vauxhall Astra before the collision.”
