Safety is health chief’s ‘number one priority’

DR Jackie Bene was medical director for five years at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust before she took up the position of acting chief executive in January.

The 47-year-old, from Affetside, has been a consultant at the Trust for 14 years. She was appointed medical director in 2008.

In November last year, Dr Bene was appointed deputy chief executive and said patient safety is her “number one priority”.

At the time, she said her position would help to guarantee patient safety whilst cuts are made.

After chief executive Lesley Doherty took early retirement in December, Dr Bene was appointed acting chief executive.

Interviews for a new chief executive took place in January, but the Trust failed to find anyone who met their requirements and Dr Bene continued in the role.

Nicky Ingham, director of workforce, is currently acting deputy chief executive.
