A WARNING has been issued about a possible contaminated drugs batch after two people died this afternoon.
At 1.30pm on Sunday police were called by ambulance crews to a house in Buttermere Road, Farnworth, after a 21-year-old woman was found dead.
Just half an hour later, at 2pm, they were called again by the ambulance service to a house in Littlebrooke Close, Tonge Moor, where a man, aged 30, had been found dead.
It is believed both may have taken amphetamine - better known as speed - and both deaths are being linked, police said.
The pair are thought to have known each other and were out together on Saturday night before going home separately.
It is believed that the 21-year-old was one of a group of three women who were out together and was staying at a friend's house when she died.
Police said post mortem and toxicology tests will take place later.
Det Insp Michael Sanderson from Bolton police said: "From the information we have received, we believe both may have taken amphetamine.
"Although we cannot say that this was the cause of death until toxicology tests are complete, we are concerned that there may be a contaminated batch of drugs in the area.
"If anyone has recently taken drugs and feels ill, I would ask you to go to hospital for a check up.
"I would always advise people not to take drugs as you do not know what it has been mixed with and you are getting what you pay for.
"They can contain poisons or illicit chemicals that can have fatal effects."
