A BRAVE mum has revealed her pride for 21 cyclists who battled the heat to get all the way to Southport.

Jane Jones runs the Bolton-based Ear4Kidz charity for deaf children, including her 10-year-old son Bobby, and got the help from the bike enthusiasts who offered to cycle 30 miles to the seaside town to raise funds.

The group set off from the Deli-cieux restaurant in Chorley Old Road at 9am on Saturday (June 8) and made it to the finish line by 3.15pm — with Milo Saunders, aged 14, and Jack Bolton, aged 11, in tow.

The cycle event, as well as a pasty and peas supper evening at Heaton Cricket Club in Church Road, Heaton, is expected to raise £1,000 for the charity.

Mrs Jones, aged 39, of Smithills, said: “I am so proud of all the riders, it is amazing for them to give up their time, especially the young lads.

“They did it last year too and it rained, so the hot weather has been more energy sapping this year.”

She added: “Ear4Kidz brings deaf children in Bolton together so that they don’t have to feel isolated and can meet people who experience the same things as they do in their lives.

“It really has changed the lives of many children, including my son and I want to thank everyone who has supported us.”
