CHUNG-YONG Lee stands on the verge of World Cup qualification with South Korea after victory over Uzbekistan.

The Wanderers winger helped his side to a priceless 1-0 win in Seoul to leave them all-but mathematically certain of playing in next summer’s tournament in Brazil.

Chung-Yong played 90 minutes in Seoul, where an own goal by Akmal Shorakhmedov on the stroke of half time settled a tense affair.

The result means that Korea lead the group by three points heading into their final game of the group against Iran next Tuesday. If they avoid defeat, they will qualify regardless of what Uzbekistan do against Qatar on the same day. Defeat would require a seven-goal swing in the Uzbek’s favour to deny Chung-Yong his second successive major tournament.

Chung-Yong played four games of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, scoring against Argentina in the group stages and Uruguay in the second round.
