A THREE-month-old baby who was found unresponsive by her mother died from natural causes, a coroner has ruled.

Parents Denco Morova and Anna Sanova sought help from Mr Morova’s parents, who they lived with in Russell Street, Heaton, after finding their youngest child, Sofia, not breathing in her pram shortly after 9am on Sunday, February 17.

The family, who are Slovakian, did not know the 999 emergency number, and so asked for help from a friend, Tibor Turtak, who could speak English, Bolton Coroners Court heard.

Mr Turtak called 999, then got in a taxi and travelled to the home where he helped with resuscitation attempts, following instructions from the North West Ambulance Service.

Paramedics and staff at Royal Bolton Hospital attempted to revive the baby but she was pronounced dead at 9.55am.

Miss Sanova, in a statement, said her daughter, who was born on November 9 in Calderbank Royal Hospital in Halifax, had been well but had a temperature several days before she died.

Her temperature had returned to normal the following morning, the court heard.

She said: “I never thought this would happen to our family. It was so sudden. She had always been healthy except the last three days (before she died).”

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Melanie Newbould, a paediatric histopathologist at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, found the cause of death to be unascertained but ruled out that the cause was trauma, third party involvement or substances such as drugs or alcohol.

Recording a verdict of death by natural causes, deputy coroner Alan Walsh, said: “It was a great tragedy and a mother’s worst nightmare to find her three-month old lovely daughter unresponsive when she had been fine earlier.

“She died as a consequence of an unidentifiable naturally occurring disease.”
