ABOUT 40 people were trapped in a town centre car park because of a fault with the electronically operated barrier.
Angry motorists were stuck in the new NCP car park in Deane Road, near Bolton College, for more than half an hour because the exit barrier would not open.
The fault happened at about 6.15pm tonight, Wednesday.
Cllr Phil Ashcroft, who was among those trapped, said: "It's a shambles. No-one can get hold of anyone at NCP.
"Everybody is just stood around. We keep pressing the service button but no-one's answering.
"The queue now goes up three ramps and people are still coming in.
"There are lots of people out of there cars and some people are getting a little bit irritated."
The barrier was fixed at about 6.45pm and the cars were released.
