BUS passengers will soon be travelling in style when a new fleet of vehicles hits the roads in Bolton.

Earlier this year, First Bus Manchester announced a major investment in their buses — and bosses also reduced fares.

Now, they have rolled out a fleet of 10 buses, which cost a total of £2 million.

They are being operated on the 501 route between Chorley Old Road and Farnworth via Royal Bolton Hospital.

The busses have leather seats, extra legroom and are fitted with CCTV cameras inside and out.

Some other buses that used to run on that route will be moved on to other routes serving Bolton, and older models will be taken out of service.

The shake-up means all of First’s Bolton buses will have low floors, making it easier for people with disabilities and child buggies to board.

The ADL Enviro 300 models are fitted with special engines that are kind to the environment.

First’s Bolton depot manager Matt Rawlinson said: “This is a major boost for Bolton and demonstrates our commitment to improving services for our customers by working closely with all our partners.

“These vehicles provide a credible alternative to car journeys, offering people choice when they are travelling around Bolton.”

Bolton Council’s transport representative, Cllr David Chadwick, said: “This significant investment by First in modernising their fleet is another step towards achieving our environmental aims.

“These buses will benefit passengers across the Bolton area and I hope will encourage more people to try out bus travel in the future.”
