POLICE are still trying to identify the parents of a baby whose body was found dumped in a lane four months ago.

Little baby Alia was discovered in Ox Hey Lane, Lostock, by dog walkers on March 14.

The child was wrapped in a shirt and plastic bags, along with a note requesting an Islamic burial.

Police believe she could have been left on Mother’s Day, March 10.

Alia, as she was named by officers, meaning beautiful, was born alive and lived for up to two hours.

Police appealed to the baby’s family to come forward to be involved with her funeral, and give her a name special to them, but no-one contacted them.

The wishes were followed and the baby was given an Islamic burial in May. Det Insp Aaron Duggan said: “Despite the passage of time our primary concern still remains the welfare of baby Alia’s parents, in particular her mother. “This will have been a traumatic experience for them, particularly if they are young.”

It is still not known how baby Alia died but officers believe the answers lie in the community and are appealing again for anyone with any information to come forward.

Det Insp Duggan added: “I want people to think about someone that perhaps they knew or suspected was pregnant around that time. If they now think they know who the mother or father is they can call us in confidence.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5448, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
