PLANS have been unveiled for a slurry pit in Blackrod.

Bolton Council received a planning application on June 25 from John Dickinson of Gregory and Dickinson for the formation of the pit at Aberdeen Farm in Blundell Lane.

Public consultation has now closed on the plans for the pit — which would measure 78m by 48m.

The Environment Agency initially objected to the plans.

But yesterday it withdrew its objection, subject to conditions that work would not start until information about the suitable materials to line the lagoon was provided.

EA bosses are also calling for assurances that the material is present to a depth of at least 1m below the base and sides of the lagoon.

At a recent meeting of Blackrod Town Council it was decided that the council would recommend the plans for approval and no objections were made — Cllr Graham Farrington said: “I have no objection to the formation of the pit, but I might be concerned by what comes out of it.”

A consultation carried out on behalf of Greenspace found that “The proposed develop-ment should not have any significant impact upon biodiversity of the area.”

The Bolton News was unable to reach the applicant for a comment.
