TWO-year-old Mason Ginty is back on his bike — after firefighters went to the rescue.

The youngster managed to get his foot trapped in the spokes of his brother Joshua’s bicycle while they were playing outside the family home in Littlebrooke Close, Tonge Moor — prompting his mum to call 999.

After an anxious wait with Mason crying in pain from a twisted ankle, he was freed by the fire service, and an X-ray at hospital later confirmed he had not broken any bones.

Mum Sophina Ginty, aged 29, said: “We were just about to go out when Joshua shouted to us.

“If he tried again a thousand times he wouldn’t be able to get his foot through the spokes.

“The man next door came out and tried to undo the wheel with a spanner but with no luck.”

With Mason crying, Miss Ginty called the fire crews who arrived to free his foot.

Firefighter James Bracegirdle, based at Bolton North fire station, said: “He was slightly distressed when we got there, but when he saw the fire engine he seemed to perk up a bit.

“When his foot was released he started crying and I think the shock might have hit him.”

Miss Ginty added: “Josh was more worried about his bike than Mason, but to be fair he was concerned when his brother was crying.

“The kids were really excited to see the fire engine, they didn’t want to ride to hospital in the ambulance, I think they wanted to be like Fireman Sam.”

The family are now hoping to arrange a tour of the fire station for Mason, Joshua and their three-year-old brother Lucas in September to celebrate Mason’s birthday.
