A PENSIONER is critically ill in hospital after he was hit by a car.

The pedestrian, a man aged 65, from Westhoughton, was hit by a Toyota Aygo at 9.10pm on Friday.

The accident happened in Leigh Road, Westhoughton.

He was taken to hospital after suffering bleeding on the brain, a fractured pelvis and a collapsed lung.

Police described his condition as critical but stable.
