CHILDREN living at Fortalice will benefit from a new toy provided by Westhoughton Inner Wheel.

The ride-on toy will be for the children’s room at the refuge. Fortalice was launched in 1977 to help women and children affected by domestic abuse.

Westhoughton Inner Wheel decided to buy the gift for the charity to mark the 90th anniversary of Inner Wheel. The group has been supporting Fortalice for several years and wanted to give it a boost.

The “push me-pull me” toy aims to encourage co-operative play in young children. Four members of the club, including president Barbara Howes and community service organiser Hilary Turner, were welcomed to the children’s room by director of services Gill Smallwood, children’s services team leader Paula Pollitt and children’s worker Janet Quinn.

The Fortalice staff told them about the work undertaken to support and help children of all ages and how the toy would be used.
