A FUTURE prime minister could be among youngsters at a Bolton school, according to a Bolton MP.
Yasmin Qureshi, MP for Bolton South East, spoke to youngsters at St Peter and St Paul’s RC Primary School in Pilkington Street, Daubhill, and also presented school council badges to pupils.
Assistant headteacher Trish Grogan said: “Two children in each school year are given the chance to run for school councillor. This is the school’s way of getting children involved, representing the school and hearing their suggestions on how they could improve.
“Yasmin was inspiring. She even invited the children to see the Houses of Parliament and said she would give them a tour, which would be an experience of a lifetime for them.”
The children took the opportunity to ask Ms Qureshi about her background and how she got her job.
She spoke to pupils about the future.
Ms Qureshi told the pupils: “Don’t let anyone stop you from doing what you want. If I can do it, you can do it.”
She added: “It was an honour to present badges to the members of the student council.
“They have a key role to play in the life of the school and I’m always keen to encourage young people to get involved.
“Who knows? Maybe one of them will be a future Member of Parliament or Prime Minister.”
