TWO top writers will bring their words to life at an event in Bolton tomorrow.

Literature Live, presented by the University of Bolton at the Octagon Theatre, will feature author Robert Graham and poet Clare Pollard.

It is the latest in the popular series of events which welcomes prestigious writers and poets to read from their own work.

Mr Graham, a Manchester Metropolitan University lecturer who has taught creative writing since 1994, will read extracts from his collection When You Were A Mod, I Was A Rocker.

Described as warm, witty and emotive stories, they feature characters of varying ages including hapless men, bemused women, as well as a cat, two dogs, a parrot, coffee and sometimes tea.

Mr Graham, whose work has been published since 1984 including a novella and plays for children and teenagers, said: “I’m looking forward to it. I enjoy any interaction with the public.

“It’s nice to take your work out and air it. I’ve got a new collection of stories. Some are 3,000 words and some that I have done are as short as a Tweet.”

It will be the first time Mr Graham, from Belfast, has read at the Octagon, and he will be joined by Clare Pollard.

She was born in Bolton in 1978, now living in London, and her first collection of poetry, The Heavy-Petting Zoo, was written while she was still at school, and received an Eric Gregory Award.

The Independent previously named her one of their top writers under 30.

The event will take place in the Octagon’s bar at 7.30pm on Tuesday. Tickets cost £5 (£2 or £3 concessions).
