The public will soon be able to send the police photographs in connection with appeals.
More than 23,500 people have downloaded Greater Manchester Police’s phone app since its launch a year ago.
The app contains news, appeals, information about student safety zones and details about your nearest police station.
In the coming months, people will be able to personalise information to what they are interested in and send photographs to help with appeals.
Deputy Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, who is the national lead for social media engagement, said: “This is going to provide people with up-to-the-minute information about where they live, work or are visiting.
“We have had fantastic feedback from people who have downloaded the app and use it to share information with us. We have listened to what people have said they wanted, and that has helped us to provide these new developments.”
He said work will continue to improve the technology.
The application is available on the iPhone and Android smartphones.
