THIS local hostelry is a popular haunt both for Bolton folk and also from people from further afield who enjoy walking in the lovely countryside nearby.
Bob’s Smithy Inn is easily recognised for its charming, traditional building and its fine food and drink.
The pub is situated in Chorley Old Road, Bolton, and here we can see same location in 1939 — the year the Second World War broke out.
Was the pub called Bob’s Smithy back in the thirties? It was, quite clearly, a public house, but does anyone remember it from earlier times?
A horse, pulling a cart, can be seen trotting down the cobbled road which, today, is a much busier highway.
