ROAD safety charity the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has issued a frost and ice warning to Bolton drivers.
The IAM’s chief examiner said Peter Rodger recommends drivers keeping to main roads, which are more likely to be salted, and they should also be aware that after the frost has gone, ice can remain in areas which are shaded by trees and buildings.
Motorists should make sure they have de-icer and a scraper. Drivers should start off in second gear if the road is slippery, releasing the clutch and accelerating gently.
Stopping distances are also increased by up to 10 times
