RESIDENTS in Atherton are being warned to ignore phone calls offering them refunds on their council tax.
A firm claiming it is working with Wigan Council is asking people in the area for personal information about their tax bands.
The council said such claims were false while Greater Manchester Police are urging people to report similar incidents on 101 with any details about the call.
Residents have also been contacted with letters and emails containing links to Government websites so they appear legitimate.
People can contact the Valuation Office in Manchester for free to find out if they are paying the right amount or if they are owed a refund.
