A woman who works for a homeless charity is hoping for a slice of the action in a bid to beat poverty.

Annette Hewitson has helped to form a partnership — launched to coincide with Poverty and Homelessness Action Week — between Barnabus, for which she works, and Bake And Take, a deli-style bakery in Manchester.

The bakery has pledged to donate fresh food every day to help Barnabus, which relies entirely on donations, to serve the 500 homeless or vulnerable people that visit its drop in centre every week.

Ms Hewitson, from Leigh, said: “With hundreds of homeless and vulnerable people visiting our drop-in centre each week, this partnership will ensure that we can always provide food for those who need it most.

“It is wonderful to see a new business give something back to the local community and what better time to launch the partnership. We are thrilled to be working with such a proactive company.”
