GRITTERS were out on the roads last night.
Roads in Atherton and Leigh were treated for the 29th time this winter as icy showers were forecast.
Terry Dunn, director of environment at Wigan Council, said: “Cold weather is predicted for the next few days and we’re well prepared if it does materialise.
“Our fleet of 11 gritters, mechanical excavators and tractors are on standby 24 hours a day ready to treat the roads. Officers monitor both road and weather conditions around the clock.”
